For as long as our people have spoken of Herabalter, the wall built by the Risar bordering the ashen land was a wooden palisade. It was a great wall made of logs, with wooden spikes at its base where the dead bodies of those slain by the Risar could be found.

Over the last century it has become a stone wall. This seems to have happened after the swarm of the terrible insects that dug through the earth and flew through the skies. Before then, any who neared this palisade would meet their death at the hands of the Risar.

It was reported some decades ago that there was a strange development in this place between Myrland and Herabalter: A stone wall was being created.

At first it was assumed this wall would be cobblestone, an extension of the rocks that surrounded the base of the wooden palisade. Over time, however, the rumors of this wall became more clear. It was an impressive structure made of great stone blocks and stone spikes that stretched towards the sky like the fangs of a serpent.

The Risar had developed the practice of building towers while none were watching. This was, and is, a great concern.

Too many think them to be simple, aggressive creatures incapable of intelligent thought and advanced planning. They are seen as bloodthirsty monsters who only wish to hunt, kill, ravage, and cause torment. A species of raiders and bandits, and little more.

This is a false belief.

We would do well to remember that the Risar are capable of speech. They have cultural practices, some not entirely like those of Humans. Their women will abandon their Thursar children in our villages and khurens while we are fast asleep, knowing they will have a better life among us than the hard life of the Risar.

It would be wise of us to consider the possibility that more is happening beyond the wall than we have historically witnessed from the Risar.

They may have built cities out of the land where volcanic pools bubble and ashes partially block the sun, turning the atmosphere a dreary shade of green.

They may have Risar kings and Risar queens who command the other Risar, instructing them to fortify the the wall to Myrland and punish those who do not fall in line.

Some would say that I am foolish and that it is only a wall and nothing more. I ask any who contain any doubt within themselves to look upon the sketches made of the structure. It is the work of sophisticated minds and it is built with undisclosed but clear intention and purpose.

We must keep a close eye on our neighbors.
