sarducaan

A Sarducaan slave trader, immediately after a successful sale. A Sarducaan combatant.

Introduction

Below the equator to the south-west lies the arid desert covered continent of Sarducaa. Scattered among the sands are the lush oases which provide homes for the Sarducaan people. Historically, the Sarducaans have withstood incursions by both Tindremenes and Kallards.

Cultural wisdom teaches that the desert is a living entity, and the Sarducaans easily accept many of the strange phenomena that can be observed among its dunes. This mythos has shaped the Sarducaans natural affinity for philosophy and magic—traits which are molded by the powerful Magi priesthood of Yequedah in their temple complex of Yesil.

The Wardaki

A group of Wardaki finishing off a charmed Akrep.

The Wardaki, or Wardaki-el-Akrep (Scorpion Dancers) hunt the Akrep and other desert creatures by ritual dancing, often leading to a type of trance. The dances and songs are called Horoi, most of them are performed by the group forming a loose circle with the animal in the middle.

There are many various types of Horoi for different animals and different situations, and most have rather complex and unusual meters or Usuls such as 9/8 or 21/16, which are believed to confuse the animals or bring them out of balance.

The Horoi music mainly consists of rhythms, deep throat singing and hums. A low droning tone is often played on a Huchir, a special hunting bow which has a small resonator. Melodic instruments such as flutes are only used for specific creatures.

The main instrument is the Dhol, a rather large double-sided drum which requires two hands. The hunters also use Daf, small round shields, which often have small cymbals attached that can be loosened to act like tambourines.

The Kebechet Cultists

Not to be confused with the nonsensical stories you may have heard in a tavern about prophecies and red moons, of particular fascination to Necromancers and Spiritists alike are the legendary Kebechet Cultists. Tales from prior to The Irruption describe them as impossible-to-track desiccated husks who wander the sands of Sarducaa, and even go so far to suggest that they have bested death while keeping some semblance of both their memory and sanity.

While these tales suggest that one has little to fear from the cultists themselves, the very nature of Sarducaa ensures that few researchers who seek them out manage to return with news of failure or findings.

Languages

Little information has been made available about the various languages spoken by the Sarducaan peoples, and the following list is very likely incomplete.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Ana’dil

Spoken primarily around the Beth Jedda region on Sarducaa. Shares many words with the Bediai Khurite language of Oğuz.

Known words include:

Am - People, ethnicity, and/or culture

Aurish

Language spoken around the Sarducaan-Kallard jungle village of Aur on Sarducaa. Shares many similarities with the Bediai Khurite language of Oğuz.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Dahán

Little is known of the Dahán language, outside of an excerpt originating from the language referring to the Armillogion: “Destegua ba Helq-ha”.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Yesilite

Forbidden language of the ancient Magi of Yequedah, who reside in the temple complex of Yesil on Sarducaa.

Some scholars have raised the dubious claim that the Yesilite lends itself to more precise and powerful Spiritism evocations. Skeptics of this claim note that the language is forbidden for outsiders to know, and so the “Yesilite words” they employ are little more than a means to come up with a persuasive vocabulary for their treatises and theories.
