Text:

The lifespan of the Oghmir is at times a source of envy for the shorter-lived clades such as Humans, though neither live quite as long as the Alvarin do. The exact mechanics of longevity are not well understood, and though many spiritists have likely theories pertaining to the sheut, it is the product of the sheut (which is to say the body that is physically present) that is of more immediate concern to the surgeon and anatomist.

It is thought by some that a unique mechanic of their digestion may be the key to this most mysterious quirk of their biology. As few other members of the hominidae family live for as long, it is safe to rule out the possibility that humans are merely short-lived.

It has been observed that within a clade that members of shorter stature tend to live longer than those of taller stature, but when one takes into account that the Blainn are on average almost the same height as a typical Khur, their small-but-sturdy structure can be ruled out as the likely reason.

Oghmirian bones are dense, though not so dense as to be classified as ironbone. Their skeletal structure is uniquely well suited for sustaining blows, despite their general lack of warfare as a culture as long as their history has been recorded.

A Blainn or Huérgar that is the same height as a Khurite will universally have a visibly more dense bone structure than the Khurite, with wider shoulders and thicker limbs particularly notable at the wrists and ankles. This is one of the largest factors of their much greater proportional weight than Humans or Alvarin, along with their greater storage of fat and propensity for muscularity.

The Oghmirian eye has been a frequent subject of study and curiosity over the years. Though Huérgar predictably have a stronger sense than their Blainn cousins, both have the remarkable ability to “see” in complete darkness.

There have been numerous attempts to divine the specific mechanics of this sight and whether it is possibly some function of the eye or activity of the mind itself, yet none have discovered its exact workings.
