Hello mother, I'm sorry it's been so long since we last spoke.

I'm doing much better now, I have a new family that took me in and cares for me. I would like to say I can't even remember the last time I slept outside with an empty stomach, but I promised I wouldn't lie to you.

They found me in the stables one night, instead of ignoring me like most, they talked to me and asked why I was out there and not inside the village. I know I said I wouldn't speak of it anymore mother, but they were talking to me like I was a person and not an animal, and it just came out. I told them everything.

I told them about our home… Yes, I still remember it. I told them about you and how you taught me to read and write when none of the other children could. How you would take me foraging in the woods outside of Vadda, and we would always come back with a fuller basket than the others because you knew where the best bushes grew.

…I told them about the day you left.

How my life has never been the same, how I spend every night hoping to wake up from this nightmare and into the bed you made for me in our old home, with the sound of you weaving outside my window like you used to.

Mother, every day I feel the rage that has been building inside me every since those cowardly Tindremenes calling themselves soldiers took you from this world…from me.

He said his name was Kham, and he told me I didn't have to be afraid anymore, that I didn't have to be cold, or hungry ever again.

They told me they belong to a group of other Khurites who will stand up to the Tindremenes, to fight them…to hurt them for what they have done. They told me I'm not the only one who tells this story, and that each of them tells a similar one, that I would come to know them in time, as they will come to know mine.
